A new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
During the year of celebrations, 60 000 deserving Canadians have been recognized.
We are happy to announce that the Canadian Federation of Steelpan Chairperson Ken Bhagan and our Secretary Veronica Tyrrell were among those who received Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Award for services and contribution to the community and the country.

Our Federation lost one of our great supporters in the death of Charles Roach, on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. He was known to many of us as Charlie.
Charlie and I have been friends for the past thirty-three years. We worked on Social Justice Issues e.g. Police Reform, Race Relations.
Most people knew that Charlie was a founding member of Caribana and Charlie loved the cultural arts.
When we held the Official Launch of the Federation at the Toronto Board of Trade on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, Charlie was very happy and honored to be invited, and he attended the launch. Afterwards, he phoned me and offered his congratulations to us for starting the Canadian Federation of Steelpan.
On behalf of the Federation, I offer our sincere sympathy to his loving wife, June, his three daughters and son. Charlie will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
May Charlie rest in peace.
